Documentary filmmaker Connie Marks, a longtime benefactor of Samaritan Daytop Village, recently toured our Fox Run Residential Treatment Program for Men in Rhinebeck, NY.

Marks, who was honored at last month's Samaritan Daytop Foundation Gala, made a generous donation to help build Recovery Corners across our programs, including one at Fox Run.

Recovery Corners provide a comfortable and quiet recovery-focused space where clients can meet with Specialists and learn about the many . The room exposes clients to sensory integration activities for self-directed, patient-centered, and sensory-supportive treatment. The calming location helps individuals recognize and manage their distress and anxiety, build resilience, and maintain recovery.

At the 10th Annual Black Tie Dinner, the United War Veterans Council, Inc. joined our Programs in paying homage to Edwin Cuevas III.

Edwin completed treatment at 43rd Street Veterans Program in 2022 and had been living in recovery since then. He died earlier this year while trying to save another's life during a white water rafting accident in Texas.

Edwin was a frequent volunteer of the UWVC's New York City Veterans Day Parade. At the ceremony, UWVC President & Executive Director Mark Otto presented a flag to Edwin's family.

Our Programs recently took its annual pilgrimage to Washington, DC - a significant therapeutic component to the vets' treatment for .

The trip included visits to the Smithsonian Museum's American Women's History Museum and National Museum of African American History, Arlington Cemetery, the MLK Memorial, and numerous war memorials on the National Mall.

This year the group also toured the U.S. Naval Academy, where they witnessed the students' daily noon meal formation outside Bancroft Hall.

The group also set aside time to commend the clients' commitment to recovery and military service. Two individuals received plaques in recognition of their leadership and commitment during treatment.

The DC pilgrimage was made possible by a grant from the New York City Council.
