"🎯A great illustration from that helps address a very common clinical misconception about the relationship between knee joint noise (crepitus) and the development of pathology.
-
🤕Almost every day in the clinic, I meet someone who is concerned about a noise that their body is making. The knee is one of the most common areas of concern as the joint behind our kneecap (patellofemoral joint) commonly makes popping and clicking noises.
-
🧠It is extremely important that people understand that noises from the knee are usually not associated with pathology and may actually be a sign of a healthy, well-lubricated joint. let’s be careful not to make people feel bad about their knee noise as it can negatively influence how they view their body!
-
✅So, if your knees are noisy and you don’t have pain, don’t worry about them. The noise is most likely due to the movement of fluid behind the kneecap and is not an indicator of a developing joint problem.

"Physiotherapy didn't work for me!"

✔️It's important to remember that physiotherapy is a profession - not a specific treatment.

Not all physiotherapy is the same... a patient may feel like they have failed physiotherapy, but what if they just got hot packs and electrostimulation?

Try to understand WHAT treatment someone has received before coming to you. Then provide high value care, specific to the individual, in order to maximise the chance of getting a good result.

Physiotherapy is about education and impacting the lives of others.
We as physiotherapists have an huge opportunity to impact lives and changing beliefs in our patients.
Educate yourself and never stop learning.
Learn something new every day and then give back.
Give back to your patients, to your family, your community, your country and to the world.
Why learn something, if you can't share it.

Doctors give medicine, surgeons do surgery to repair tissues.. physiotherapists have the opportunity to change a person.
We have more time with patients to create a real connection with the person and change their beliefs and habits.
Movement is our medicine, and we are specialists in movement.

We as physiotherapist have a great opportunity to fight the big health issues of our time: cardiovascular disease, chronic low back pain, diabetes, dementia, etc.

It's not about me, it's about us.
We have the responsibility to help the people around us.
By helping others, you make your world a better place.
The (western) world has become already too much individualized..

So...physiotherapy is awesome! 🙂

This is a repost from februari 2016 🙂

The meniscus is a crescent-shaped piece of cartilage between the thighbone (femur) and the shinbone (tibia), and its job is to stabilize the knee and absorb shock. Damage to the meniscus, which is called a meniscal lesion, can occur from an injury or due to gradual changes over time, which come with...

Need a reason to exercise?

This study looked at how exercise can preserve muscle mass.
Here they compare a 74-year old sedentary man and a 70-year old triathlete, and the difference in fat and muscle tissue is extreme.

As we often say...😉

Many people without back pain have disc bulging and degeneration. If you have something "scary" on your scan, don't panic. Call a physical therapist. They can get you feeling and moving better.
