SHADOW WORK - it’s easier than you think

I've really been working in the shadow lately. And not by choice.

It's been hanging over me like a wet blanket, suffocating and draining me. But there is light somewhere. I can't see it yet but I can feel it.

When all I can see and feel is darkness it's challenging to find something, anything to hold onto. This quote has always comforted me and made me feel like my darkness is not a curse but a gift.

A shadow work session involves exploring your subconscious mind and finding any issues you may have. In addition to healing old wounds, it can help you release negative emotions and embrace your true self.

Start by identifying your triggers.

1) How do you deal with anger, guilt, jealousy, or insecurity?

2) Write down what you are thinking and feeling. Don't be afraid to speak your mind.

3) Recall your childhood. How did your parents, teachers, friends, and society shape your identity? What messages did you receive about what is acceptable and unacceptable?

4) Challenge your beliefs. Are they true or false? Are they helpful or harmful? Is that voice on your head your's or someone else's?

5) THIS IS WHERE IT GETS TOUGH - Accept and integrate your shadow. Don’t judge or reject it. Recognize that it is part of you and has a purpose. Learn from it and use it as a source of strength. Strengthening the soul is the shadow's purpose. It may be a harsh and cruel teacher but it's not malicious or sadistic. It's actually composed of some of the most powerful parts of you - the strongest and most resilient aspects of your personality.

I have so many clients who come to me to work through relationship issues, either on their own or with their partner.
They say they have trust issues 🙅🏼‍♀️❤️‍🔥🙅🏾
They say they have been hurt in the past ⚡️❤️🗡
They say they have not felt safe to share with their current partner ❤️‍🩹
They say they have reason to doubt their current partner💔

I get it. You have been mistreated and there is nothing in the world I can say that will convince you to open up again unless………❓❓❓

You decide that it will be worth the risk this time😮

Unless you decide you are willing to let down some of your defences a little bit and offer yourself more courage to love today than yesterday.

Unless the idea of being alone in a relationship feels less gratifying than risking your resilient heart once again for the chance of growth, hope, or love💕

Let’s talk about holding space for emotions, your own or someone else’s.
Are you a coach, healer, guide, teacher, or empath🕯and people lay their emotional stuff on you?
Are you trying to push your thoughts and feelings away but find they return with gusto?
Do you absorb the emotional debris floating around you?
It’s important that you learn to release and let go of emotional 🧳
Spend some time with your emotions so you’ll know how they influence you and how they show up in your world.

We are all individually responsible for our emotional responses to situations.
🌀 Guilt and feeling bad that we have disappointed someone is about unrealistic expectations others place on us or, more likely, that we place on ourselves.
🌀 If you feel buried under guilt only you can dig your own way out.
🌀 Check in with what others really expect of you and what you expect of yourself… are they fair and reasonable expectations? Are you being asked to do/be too much?
🌀Can you delegate any responsibilities to others in order to be more efficient?
Is it really your job to do it all?

Don’t be fooled by how mass media portraits therapy.
Laying on a couch is optional😴 Looking at obscure inkblots is just one tool🔍 You don’t have to talk about your parents or family🙌 Sharing with a stranger can be relieving. Medication is not mandatory🚫💊 You don’t have to have weekly sessions📆 You don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for years🤑 It is more of an investment of time and energy than money⏳
