It’s Okay to Outgrow the Life You Thought You Wanted

“Maybe we can look at ourselves-as-is, rather than the ones we envisioned becoming. That’s the place everything else grows from, anyway.”

It’s Okay to Outgrow the Life You Thought You Wanted How do we untether ourselves from the people we imagined we’d become?

You don’t have to be everything to everyone every time

How about we stop hogging the ball and give God a turn? Just saying - it makes everything better. ❤️

We are hurt in relationships AND we heal in relationships. We are not meant to do life alone, we need each other and thrive in safe, loving relationships.

Therapy is helpful, for sure, but it’s not what heals.
Therapy helps us get to relationships which heal.

Vagal Tone: A Measurable Indicator of Nervous System Health — Trauma Geek

We NEED safe, connected community or horses, horses help too!

"Our vagus nerve needs the safe/calm influence of human and/or animal nervous systems to change tone...Vagal tone is not fixed. It can change over time. There is no quick way to change vagal tone, but with consistent practice, healing this developmental trauma is possible."

Vagal Tone: A Measurable Indicator of Nervous System Health — Trauma Geek Vagal tone is the ability of the ventral vagus nerve to regulate the heart beat. “Cardiac vagal tone" is measured by tracking heart-rate and breathing rate at the same time. The heart-rate speeds up a little when we breathe in, and slows down a little when we breathe out. The bigger the differe

What are your happiness triggers?!

03/17/2021

Allow yourself to feel all the feels! None of them are good or bad, right or wrong...they just are.

I grew up believing that crying, swearing, and anger were unacceptable ways to express pain.

It’s been so freeing to reframe them all as purposeful parts of the human experience instead of character flaws to avoid.

All.of.this.

I don't know who needs to hear this (of course I do, ALL of us), but doing the bare minimum and letting your body rest and heal is not slacking off. It's self-care.

A fantastic explanation of our body's natural response to trauma, our normal human need for connection and how to heal.

Late-Stage Pandemic Is Messing With Your Brain

“We’re all walking around with some mild cognitive impairment,”...“Based on everything we know about the brain, two of the things that are really good for it are physical activity and novelty. A thing that’s very bad for it is chronic and perpetual stress.”

Late-Stage Pandemic Is Messing With Your Brain We have been doing this so long, we’re forgetting how to be normal.

Sometimes what we think is the issue isn't really the issue at all, its a deflection.
Deflection is a coping skill designed to protect our tender, vulnerable spaces yet those are the spaces that need to be brought into the light so healing can begin.

‘Revenge Bedtime Procrastination’ Is Real, According to Psychologists

"I think the thing about bedtime revenge procrastination is that, however bleak its origins are and whatever toll it takes, it’s a quiet reminder from your unconscious that you really do like being alive. There are so many good things in life that you don’t want to fall asleep and miss them. We want one more funny video, one more text from a friend, one more moment feeling awake, and happy, and free."

The Pandemic Has Erased Entire Categories of Friendship

"The psychological effects of losing all but our closest ties can be profound. Peripheral connections tether us to the world at large; without them, people sink into the compounding sameness of closed networks. Regular interaction with people outside our inner circle “just makes us feel more like part of a community, or part of something bigger,”...People on the peripheries of our lives introduce us to new ideas, new information, new opportunities, and other new people. If variety is the spice of life, these relationships are the conduit for it."

Did you know anger is a protective emotion?
Anger usually gets a bad rap but in reality it more often serves to protect our tender, vulnerable emotions. Sadness, fear, shame/disgust, even childlike wonder or joy can be covered by anger.

Getting in touch with our anger and the emotions hidden behind it is an important step in our growth.
